Prison Break

University of Miami (USA) '21

Problem:

The problem we are trying to solve is increasing the employment rates of ex convicts.

Idea:

The idea we have is to educate prisoners on how to be better equipped for their release. For example, having training on how to complete a resume, interview practices, offering proper interview attire, educating them on the different trade skills, hosting job fairs, and creating job portals specifically for people who have been recently released.

Main Beneficiaries:

The beneficiaries are the people in prison who are near to their release date. Globally there are currently 10.35 million people in prison, with 2.2 million being in the United States.

Stage:

Inspiration and ideation

SDG:

GOAL 4: Quality Education

GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions

Congratulations! Your proposal has been pre-selected to move forward in the Hemispheric University Consortium Social Ideas Challenge. Together with students from partner institutions in the hemisphere, you are required to attend at least two of the great workshops that we have lined up for you next week. Please “Save the Date” for the University of Miami Social Ideas Challenge Finale for Monday, November 8 at 6:00pm in Storer Auditorium in Miami Herbert Business School. There your team will compete with the other UM teams in a three-minute formal presentation about your idea. The winning team will represent the University of Miami in the international challenge in April 2022. We’re excited to learn more about your ideas! Warm regards, The Social Ideas Challenge University of Miami
