Desierto Sostenible

Pontificia Universidad Católica (Chile)

Problem:

The progressive increase in the planet's temperature, caused by greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, is worsening living conditions in the driest desert in the world, the Chilean desert. This, together with the demand for food by the population and the almost null interest of the new generations in being part of local agriculture, has drawn the attention of experts, who warn of a progressive desertification that will increase in the next 15 to 20 years.

Idea:

The proposed solution is based on the idea of being able to face this situation through the implementation of sustainable urban gardens, through drip irrigation with the use of solar desalinators that will be specifically designed for applicability to the project, to greatly strengthening the Agriculture

Main Beneficiaries:

It will be of primary use for the entire population living in communities living in the north of Chile (Atacama), whose access to this project will favorably improve their quality of life
